ABSTRACT
Inhibition of seven crude water extracts on germination of Hemileia vastatrix uredospore.
Coffee leaf rust caused by Hemileia vastatrix, is the most important disease of arabica coffee
in Indonesia. In recent year, botanical fungicide has been developed as one of control method.
This research was conducted to evaluate the germination of H. vastatrix uredospores on
several crude water extracts. The experiment included eight treatments, i.e. sterile water as
control, extract Imperata cylindrica, Zingiber officinale, Languas galanga, Curcuma
domestica, Allium sp., Allium cepa, Allium sativum, each extract was test in concentration
10%. All treatment is arranged in completely block design with three replications. The result
indicated that all extract reduced germination of H. vastarix uredospores. On 4 and 8 hours
after aplication the results showed that each extract had different effect in reducing
uredospores germination, but not on 12 hours after inoculation, where all extracts had same
effect.
Key word: coffee leaf rust, Hemileia vastatrix, crude water extract
